Our thoughts are with the Japanese people who are currently suffering from the recent unimaginable natural disasters, resulting in loss of life, with many thousands of people still missing. This is now compounded by the concerns of radiation leakage from the Fukushima plant.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is a major employer in Japan, and has its headquarters in Tokyo. We have been advised that the headquarters is operational, although employees have been affected by transport problems and power rationing.
The MHI Air Conditioning and Refrigeration factories are based further south in Nagoya, about 350 miles from the centre of the earthquake and the areas destroyed by the tsunami. We are advised the factories are working normally, and are not affected by power rationing.
The main production facilities for MHI split systems and VRF indoor units are in Thailand, with some additional facilities in China; none of these have been affected.
We are awaiting more news from our friends at MHI Japan, and we will keep our customers and staff informed of any possible effect on production. We have huge stocks of MHI systems in the UK, with numerous containers continuing to arrive by sea. Additionally MHI has large stocks of VRF in Rotterdam, which we are able to draw upon over the next few months.
